BTDC Sewage SystemLiquid Waste Utilization Nusa Dua Tourism Resort Background The Nusa Dua Tourism resort area cover over 300 Ha of land is one of tourism area in Bali is full with international quality of facilities. The facilities such as five star hotels with 4000 rooms, Bali International Convention Center ( BICC ), Galleria Nusa Dua shopping center, Bali Golf & Country Club, Amphitheatre, etc. In order to keep the balance of environment in the area, BTDC as the supervisor of this resort area equipped the area with facility to utilize waste and try to optimizing the use of utilizes water for watering the area. Those are ways to maintain the image of the area that is environment oriented. For the utilization of the liquid waste and lagoon, BTDC has one special unit, The Utilization Liquid waste unit with main job : to control the irrigation of liquid waste from the hotel inside the area to the lagoon, to observe the process of the liquid waste utilization until it reach the standard quality as water irrigation for watering the plants inside the area. Lagoon BTDC Sewage Treatment Plant known as lagoon was build in 1976 with capacity of 10.000 m3/day. The lagoon starts to operate in 1980. The lagoon area is 30 Ha, until now 17 Ha is used for installation and pump house. Lagoon consist of 2 installations : Installation for waste utilization ( cell 1,2a, 2b & ) and Installation for irrigation water production ( aerator pond, sedimentation, & filtration ). Waste Irrigation System The liquid waste which utilities in lagoon is domestic liquid waste that comes from hotels such as : bathroom, toilet, laundry, swimming pool, air conditioner, kitchen, and all other hotel’s activities that uses water. Each hotel collects their waste from each part of their department into collection pit than pumped to the main pipe waste. From the main pipe, the waste will flow gravelly to the nearest lift pump station ( LPS ) and the submersible pipe line in LPS will automatically pump the waste to lagoon which located approximately 3 km North from the area. BTDC Waste Utilization System The system that is being used is waste stabilization pond. The fresh waste from LPS comes out through inlet in cell 1 and had oxide. Cell 1 consist of 2 parts ( 1a & 1b ) separated by fiberglass, the top part function as grease trap tool that is to reduce grease and floating dirt which enter the next cells. The grease and dirt that stuck in the grease trap will be cleaned periodically by the staffs that works in lagoon. After passing cell 1 the water enter cell 2a than through cell 2b ( the widest cell ). In cell 2b, the oxidize process will take sometimes ( because of its size ). To observe the toxic level in the water, in this cell fresh -water fish (mujair ) is placed and used for biology indicator to capture the change of water quality. Next, the water flow to the cell 3, water in this cell is odour – free and its color is blue green. The fresh- water fish is also place in this cell to observe the water quality changes. Irrigation Water Production System To improve the water quality after the natural oxidize process in cell 1,2,3, the water will re-process in the aeration pond with 8 mechanic aerator that stand by 8 hours/ day to add oxygen in the water. Than the water is irrigated to sedimentation pond ( 2 pond available ) to sedimentating mud and other dirt that accidentally brought in to the pond. The mud in the sedimentation pond, will be drain periodically. From the sedimentation pond, the water will be filtrated with 5 – gravity sand filter so the water sparks clearly. Reservoir After the filtration process, the water goes into the reservoir, from which the water is ready to irrigated and distributed to the customer through the water pipe installation for watering landscape inside the Nusa Dua resort area and for inside use of hotel. Continues Utilization for Golf Course Differ from the water use for watering the landscape in the area and hotels, the water for golf course will re- utilities to minimize turbid and bacteria concentrations in the irrigations pipe because the water for golf course is quite far from lagoon. The addition process uses rapid sand filter. |
