An Intimate Environmental and Cultural Beachfront Tourist Resort

The Nusa Dua tourist resort has been designed as a site for five star hotel development offering international standard services and facilities.

In its concept development, Nusa Dua prioritized an eco-friendly approach towards the social-cultural setting and the natural physical surroundings. All construction and development within the complex must therefore be carried out according to the standard regulations outlined in the Design Criteria, Covenant Construction & Restriction Area code.

This code explains that any development within Nusa Dua must follows certain guideline; for example, buildings must be no higher than a coconut tree, their color must not clash with the surroundings, construction should employ local materials to the extant possible, and development should ensure a sense of spaciousness. All of these guidelines are intended to preserve the natural surroundings.
Environmental concerns are also prioritized in the area’s wastewater system, which is centrally managed by the BTDC at the final wastewater station known as the “Eco Lagoon.” The lagoon’s water is recycled for use in irrigation the plants and gardens within the Nusa Dua complex and within individual hotel grounds.

The Lagoon also produces algae, which supports the presence of fish, which then attract various species of birds to feed at the lagoon. This miniature ecosystem becomes a tourist attraction in its own right, adding to the allure of the Nusa Dua tourist resort. In recognition of these environmental preservation activities, BTDC has been honored with a number of prestigious awards, including the Green Leaf Award from PATA and the Kalpataru Award presented by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia acknowledgement of the successful management of the Nusa Dua tourist resort.

In addition to conserving the natural environment, BTDC also makes effort at preserving the arts and culture of Indonesia. This is demonstrated by its organization of the annual Nusa Dua Festival. This weeklong festival features drama and dance performances, woodcarving and painting demonstrations, cultural workshops and traditional story telling (kerawitan) sessions, and exhibition of handicraft and souvenirs from across the country. The goal of this event is to preserve and develop the Indonesian archipelago’s arts and culture as a prestigious attraction in the eyes of foreign and international travelers.
